Frankfurt am Main, 16 October 2026
The education programme StartKapital of the Bundesverband der Börsenvereine an deutschen Hochschulen (BVH) e.V. and the financial app Seasn of Goethe University Frankfurt have been working together since August 2026. StartKapital brings basic financial education to schools, vocational schools and universities free of charge. With Seasn, participants can then apply what they have learned themselves. The two partners want to close a gap: financial education is still not a compulsory subject in its own right in any German federal state, although 92 percent of 16- to 25-year-olds want money and finance to be covered thoroughly at school.
In the eight StartKapital modules, young people learn how a budget works, what is left of a gross salary, when debt becomes a problem and how to provide for old age. In Seasn they play through these questions with a given financial profile, for example as a lawyer, a cook or a craftsperson. At events such as a first job or a big purchase, they decide for themselves how much to save, how to insure themselves and how to avoid debt. The app’s planning mode also lets them work through their own finances.
The games and quiz questions from the StartKapital modules are currently being built into Seasn as exercises. From 2027, participants will be able to revise the material in the app after class.
“In class, pupils understand how a budget works. With Seasn they then try it out on a financial life of their own. This second step is usually exactly what is missing,” explains Anton Reuter, co-initiator of StartKapital and deputy chair of the BVH e.V.
“Financial knowledge sticks when you apply it yourself. With StartKapital, Seasn gets to where young people think about pay, rent and retirement provision for the first time,” adds Prof. Dr. Andreas Hackethal, academic director of Seasn.
About StartKapital
StartKapital is a non-profit education programme of the Bundesverband der Börsenvereine an deutschen Hochschulen (BVH) e.V. It brings independent financial education into the classroom: eight modules of approx. 45 minutes each with ready-made material that teachers can use to teach themselves. On request, volunteers run the modules at the school. The offer is free for schools. StartKapital does not recommend banks, insurers or financial products.
About Seasn
Seasn is a free, ad-free financial app developed at the House of Finance of Goethe University Frankfurt in a research cooperation with the Leibniz Institute SAFE. It is used in the first schools in Hesse and was awarded the German App Award 2026 by DISQ and ntv in the category financial education apps.
