Frequently asked questions
The essentials on cost, prior knowledge, material and sessions.
What does StartKapital cost?
Nothing. All eight modules and the handbook are free, for schools, teachers, volunteers and anyone else who is interested.
Who is StartKapital for?
For grades 8 to 13 of all school types, for vocational schools, universities and anyone starting their working life.
Do I need prior knowledge?
No. Every module has a minute-by-minute schedule, notes for every slide, a glossary and all quiz questions with answers. You do not need to be a finance professional.
How much time do I need?
One session takes approx. 45 minutes. You can teach it without us. If you are not from the field, allow 2 to 4 hours of preparation.
How much lead time does a session need?
Two weeks is ideal.
May I change or share the material?
The material is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. You may use and share it for free, unchanged and with attribution, but you may not adapt it or use it commercially. Commercial use means any use aimed at a business advantage or monetary compensation. Schools, teachers, other non-profit educational institutions and university groups may expressly use it for educational purposes. If you would like to adapt something, talk to us.
Is StartKapital neutral?
Yes. We only name categories and principles and do not recommend any bank, broker, ETF or insurance. All calculation examples are model calculations and not investment advice.
Who is behind it?
The Bundesverband der Börsenvereine an deutschen Hochschulen (BVH) e.V., the federation of German university investment clubs, with over 24,000 members in over 70 investment clubs.
Can I use only individual modules?
Yes. Each module is a session of its own, but the modules build on each other.
Is anything graded?
No. The quiz tests your own level of knowledge without assessing it.
How up to date are the figures?
The worked examples are based on 2026 values and are model calculations. We check the figures once a year and update them, for example for the retirement savings account from 2027.
Will someone come to the class, or do I teach it myself?
Both are possible: you teach the session yourself with the handbook, or volunteers come to your school.
