About us
Independent financial education for all young people
BVH StartKapital brings independent financial education into the classroom, with ready-made material for teachers and with volunteers who run modules at schools. Our vision: financial literacy in all 16 German states.
Our principles
We go into schools
Only there do we reach all young people, regardless of how much financial knowledge their family can pass on. Financial education is also a question of equal opportunity.
We are independent
StartKapital does not recommend banks, insurers or financial products, and no provider with a sales interest influences the content. The programme is free for schools, and it is meant to stay that way.
We enable others
In the long run, teachers should do most of the teaching. That is why the material is designed so that a module can be taught even without prior knowledge.
We want to prove impact
We want to measure what the modules achieve and back it up with data.
Neutrality and funding
StartKapital is funded by donations and grants from foundations, public programmes and partners without a product interest. The work in the team is voluntary. Funds go mainly into material, training, travel costs and impact measurement.
We do not accept money if a funder expects influence over content, proximity to products or advertising for financial providers in return. Funders are named on the website if they wish, but they receive no advertising space in lessons and no seats on decision-making bodies.

The team
StartKapital is run by a volunteer core team in four areas.
Operations
Training multipliers, cooperation with states and institutions, events, trade fairs and workshops, contact for questions about delivery.
Education
Content and quality of the modules, slides, videos and quiz questions, link to the Seasn app and to research.
Marketing & Communication
Social media and newsletter, media partners, answers to enquiries from press, funders and schools.
Finance & Legal
Grants and donations, bookkeeping and cost planning, non-profit status and proof of how funds are used.
The core team stays deliberately small. What should grow is the network of local investment clubs, trained teachers and volunteers.
